Speedy PC: Overview

Speedy PC is an advanced PC utility that is designed to speed up PC performance, reduce error messages and clean the desktop clutters in an efficient way. Speedy PC speeds up PC by removing junk and obsolete entries in the Windows registry making it compact thereby speeding up the time a program requires to access the Windows Registry. It also features a start up manager to remove unneeded programs running at start up – optimizing the start up speed.

Speedy PC: Installation

To install Speedy PC, visit the Speedy PC Website and download the installation file (setup file) to your PC. Then, double click the setup file to launch the setup wizard. Follow the simple instructions in the wizard and install the tool on your PC.

Minimum System Requirements

RAM: 128 MB (Recommended: 256 MB, and 1 GB for Windows 7)

Hard Disk Free Space: 15 MB

300 MHz Processor Speed (Recommended Pentium III and Pentium 1 GHz for Windows 7)

Internet access to register the tool and receive product updates.

The tool supports the following Windows operating systems:

Microsoft ® Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit)

Microsoft ® Windows Vista

Microsoft ® Windows XP Service Pack 1 or higher

Microsoft ® Windows 2000 Service Pack 4

Microsoft ® Windows ME

Microsoft ® Windows 98 SE

Speedy PC: How it works.

Scan and Repair

The first task you do with Speedy PC is to run the scan. The scan does 2 things. It finds Windows errors and system performance issues.

The scan finds all ActiveX errors, DLL errors, Application or EXE errors, Runtime errors, Windows Installer errors, Blue screen or stop errors, Windows Explorer errors and Internet Browser errors. These are the errors that are discovered by the scan feature.

In addition to errors, it also deals with system performance issues such as startup programs, invalid device drivers, file associations, incorrect application paths, help files and corrupt registry entries and files.

So, in a nutshell,

Scans for…

What it does fix?

COM/ActiveX Entries

Fixes EXE/Application and ActiveX Errors

Uninstall Entries

Removes obsolete uninstall entries, freeing up Registry space, so programs work faster.

Shared DLLs

This removes multiple references to DLL (library)files, fixing DLL errors and also frees up Registry size, making programs execute faster…

Application/File Path References

This removes invalid entries, cutting the extra crud off of Registry while fixing Application or EXE errors. Compact Registry = faster access of Registry by windows program.

Once you have scanned for errors, its time to fix or repair it.

The whole scan and repair is 3 step process. Scan, Detect and Repair.

Image 1. Scan and repair - Start up screen (Click on image for full size)

Leave all the items checked, if you are running this tool for a first time. For selective scan, check the items you want, for example, you might want to clean up the registry after uninstalling a program, in that case you might only check the “Uninstall Entries” or want to fix a DLL error, in that case only check the “Shared DLL” entry.

After you have checked as per your needs, click on the Start Scan to run the scan.

Depending on the PC speed and the size of the registry, (Note: registry can be as more as 400MB or even more than that) your scan will take from 2-10 minutes. You can see the scanning process in the image below.

Image 2. Scanning (Click on image for full size)

Image 3. Errors detected. (Click on image for full size)

Once the scanning is done, the identified error results are displayed. You can click Continue to fix it or choose what entries to fix. You don’t need to think too much into that, as the Registry is backed up for you after the fix, to restore it back in case if you have clicked the Continue button too fast without choosing what to fix. To select what to fix and what to ignore, click on the ( + ) button before each entry (as shown in the image below), to expand the listings and click ignore to ignore an entry you don’t want to fix.

Image 4. Selected fix of errors. Click continue to fix. (Click on image for full size)

Image 5. Repair results (Click on image for full size)

Ok, you have clicked continue it fixes the Registry, also creating a backup of it before fixing it. A message box is displayed after clicking the Continue button, showing the number of errors fixed. You are then taken to a results page to see what it has fixed. In the image above, no entries are fixed, this is because I took the image snap before fixing it. But you will see the detailed number of entries that are fixed and ignored.

At anytime you can click on the Results page to track the statistics of the errors that are repaired till to date.

The one-click Undo feature.

This is the safety precaution Speedy PC takes in order to undo any session of registry fix. By default, creating a system restore point is disabled. But it can be turned on so that you can totally undo a registry repair session from the system restore point window as you would do when reverting a bad installation of a program. We’ll talk about Options in a while.

In addition to system restore, a full registry backup is also taken before each fix, so you can restore registry in case if the results (system performance) are not satisfying.

To Restore click on the Restore button on the left pane as shown in the image below.

Restore screen (Click on image for full size)

Select the repair session you want to restore. Currently in the image it has no restore, as its taken before a repairing, you will see it after a repair session. (This image will be updated soon with restore points)

Start Up Programs Manager

Startup Tuner screen (Click on image for full size)

Let’s face it. PC doesn’t quickly start up like a new one. Its unwanted program that causes slow system start up. The solution? Speedy PC has a built-in Windows start up manager, (image above) that lets you disable a program run on start up. Go through the list of start up programs, and disable the ones that you don’t want. You can also totally remove a program from starting up. But I like to disable them personally.

Speedy PC Options

Options screen (Click on image for full size)

What you see above is the General settings screen that is displayed on clicking the Options button from the left pane of the window. From that screen, you can choose to customize the settings like starting the program minimized or start it on the system start up. Make sure you check the “Create a system restore point before repairing problems” so that you are double safe along with the automatic back up.

The Next tab on the options screen is the Ignore list, (image below)

Manage Ignore List – Ignored Registry Keys and objects in one screen

Options - Ignore List screen (Click on image for full size)

This is where Registry keys and objects that are ignored during the repair process are saved and displayed. The category of a key and the key is displayed. This is ignored for all the future scan and repair sessions. You can manage it here. Remove the ones that you don’t want to be ignored again.

Scheduling Speedy PC to automatically run at regular intervals

Options - Schedule screen (Click on image for full size)

This is the 3rd and final tab on the general options screen. Schedule comes in, when you are busy and neglect to perform Registry maintenance task regularly. You can schedule the scanning and repairing to be automatically done on daily, weekly and monthly basis. This way, your PC maintenance is automated and runs periodic.

Speedy PC Online Help

Thanks to the user-friendly interface of Speedy PC and with its easy to use features, help is almost never needed. But in case if you are stuck somewhere or want a quick pointer to guide you to use this tool efficiently, click on the Help on the top right of the window. You are taken to the Speedy PC online Help page to help you.

Speedy PC Automatic Updates

SpeedyPC is limited in many ways (registry defragmentation, registry backup, precise registry scanning…) that I don’t feel recommending it to anyone. It still has a long way to go. The one alternative to speedyPC that I personally use is Registry Booster and absolutely loving it a lot.

The most technical savvy person would say that you don’t need a registry cleaner at all. But if you ask me, those professionals are the one who live their life to tinker with their PC and don’t worry if anything goes wrong, or would even like to take a long run when their PC screen is frozen. They don’t mind it. In fact they like to go savvier and even try to clean every PC infections manually. But you and I have a lot of things in our life to do, and sharing the best moments on the internet with friends and family is the greatest gift in this modern era and to risk the PC for a little investment will not put a huge savings into your and my bank account. In fact I was the one to openly admit that I don’t need a registry cleaner, until then when I got to work on a registry cleaner myself, building one from the scratch, its when I realized that what I had on mind was totally wrong and I recommend you to read this article closely from this point onwards.

I was wrong. I realized what a registry cleaner does but late. On a case study that I did on 10 PC running Windows vista with 2 Ghz Processing power and 3 GB RAM in my lab, 5 runs with registry cleaner, and the remaining 5 doesn’t. All the 10 had Kaspersky antivirus, spybot antispyware and zone alarm firewall. The results, as you might have guessed, the ones with the registry cleaner ran smoothly, with no freezing up, no slow response, did not want to me to reboot often, did not end up throwing up too many blue screen errors, did not give me too many annoying error windows that I faced on the remaining ones with no registry cleaner installed. So what was the missing piece in the group of PC’s that had every security programs on it? Yes, it’s the registry cleaner or Registry Optimizer Tool, however you may call it. It does a lot and I am going to go through them with you, and finally tell what the best registry cleaner is that I have made my mind after the extensive research to spend my money on not just 1 or 2, but 5 license keys even on the one that had my development work on it.

A registry cleaner, defragments your windows registry, which like the heart of your PC where all the system, application and user data are stored in. By defragmenting, I mean it takes all the pieces that make up a data from random spots on the disk and makes it continuous thus speeding up the access time and cutting all the error that result from a cluttered and bloated up registry. This complex yet made simple by a registry cleaner will do all the house keeping work that are involved in an office or administrative registries too. A registry cleaner will not be the last resort in my case. But it will be the first among the list of system maintenance that I do every week along disk cleanup, antivirus, antispyware scan up and disk defragmenting. Just because I need my PC to be clean, speed, error and infection prone. So now you know what a registry cleaner does and why you need one, you might want to see yourself in the action. But like I promised before, I will reveal my best registry cleaner. It’s a Tool called Registry Optimizer, that had my hands involved in the development and I am proud to use it as well as vouch it to my family, friends and whoever that needs one. Registry Optimizer Tool has the ability to back up the entire registry so in case of a PC failure you can revert to the registry settings to the previous form. It has a scheduler to schedule the scan to run it say daily or thrice a week, I do it on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Registry Optimizer Tool can scan for all known missing, invalid, obsolete and malicious entries in your registry and cleans them off thoroughly. So when do you need one? What are waiting for? Its NOW the time to invest on it and keep all the problems at bay!

If you see that your computer drops down in speed after you have downloaded something from the internet or opened an email attachment, then there is a good chance that your PC is infected with viruses and malwares. This is not abnormal for PC and internet users these days; so what is the solution? The solution is using an anti-virus, anti-spyware or anti-malware to detect and remove these virus and malwares that has a potential threat to infect and destroy your computer. Once you have the tools in hand, do complete system scan to catch and get rid of these malicious programs!

If you follow the steps in downloading and running these programs periodically, so you can be safe from these malwares. Let’s talk about that now.

There are 3 steps to do a complete system scan:

Disconnecting your PC from internet and LAN

The first step is to disconnect your PC from internet connection and any network. Make sure they are turned off.

If the virus or malware is currently downloading, you may see something strange on your PC, like your pc drops its speed or freezes up, disconnecting from the internet at once will ensure that the virus or malware is not being downloaded, so the way through which viruses and malwares gets into your system are blocked! Malwares and viruses just don’t gets downloaded from the internet, it can also spread through via shared folders over the network, disconnecting from the network, will just terminate them from reaching your PC temporarily. Also even if you are sending an email, save it as a draft for now and then terminate the internet connection at once!

After you have done that, install the latest version of anti-virus and anti-malware or anti-spyware. It must be latest so that they have the latest definition file which keeps track of the latest virus, malwares and spywares. Once you have installed the program, and real time protection is on, you may now connect to the internet and networks.

Now you may active the program, and get all the features working. You also can make use of the parental block and email spam blocker that comes along with a good anti-virus or anti-spyware or internet security program!

2. Run a complete PC scan!

Now that you got your latest anti-virus and anti-spyware program updated to the latest virus and malware definition files and active with all its features, you may start running a complete PC scan immediately. Before beginning to scan, make sure you check all the local hard drives as well as any external storage devices connected to your computer at the moment, like USB drive and External hard disk drives. Then start scanning. After the scanning as been completed, the program report s the results. Review the result.

If there are no viruses or spywares found, yet the system is still funky and weird, you may have to use another program called the Registry Cleaner to fix other errors that your anti-virus or anti-spyware program fails to catch, those errors are registry errors, program conflicts and errors and hardware failure. On running the registry cleaner, those above problems will be fixed. On the other hand, if your program shows the existence of virus and spywares, you can fix the problem by cleaning the infected files, if that fails you can quarantine or delete it. Now before you think to close the program, run another scan. Keeping scanning till the program shows no existence of viruses and spywares. What if when I delete or quarantined files which could make my programs not work? Well, you have to go the corresponding program setup files, and just do a repair of the program!

3. Scanning until there are no more errors!

Make sure to run your anti-virus, anti-spyware and registry cleaner program until there are no more errors on your PC. What’s next? Well, now you need to prevent any loss of important files in the future, so you need to backup your important files and programs into another safe location such as a USB drive or external hard disk, so that in case if those files get infected, and deleted by those security programs, your backup will come handy.

The other important thing is to schedule your antivirus, antispyware and registry cleaner to run periodically, and keep its definition file up to date, along with the updated security patch. This will help you stay protected from future threats.

Another, safety precaution you must follow is not to visit harmful sites and open suspicious emails from contacts you are not familiar with.

Thus, having a security program like anti-virus and anti-spyware is a good start. But you must also invest in a good registry cleaner if you haven’t done so already. Those tools together ensure complete protection of your PC. Download a free scan of a registry cleaner that I personally use, from just above this article!

If you are reading this article, there is a good chance that you need to learn use to a registry cleaner tool effectively. So, you are in the right place. This article will cover all the details step-by-step to guide you well, so that you don’t have to worry anymore.

So, before learning to use a registry cleaner tool, you must download it first, click on the scan now button above or above this article to download one. This is the tool that we recommend and use it for on our system. I recommend that you download from here, because the internet has many types of software that can meet the entire requisite requirement, but the chances are they might be infected with malwares like virus and spywares.

Once you have downloaded the software, its time to install it. The file is an exe file; simply open it like any other file to install it. Once opened it, follow the installation instruction and move on. Accept the license agreement and choose where you need to install it if you don’t want to install in the default location. Once all done click finish, then you are good to go!

Now run the program. As soon as the program begins, you are recommended to take a backup of your registry, this is important before you even began to use the tool. If you don’t see this option, then you need to manually do the registry backup! – Just because if something screws up badly, you can revert it using the backup.

Now its time to start using the tool, the first step is running a scan. Choose the scan option, and click start scanning! Upon the completion of scanning, the error details are listed out. You can then selectively pick which one of the error that you need to fix, or simple choose to fix all. The feature – selective scanning is vital because once you see that if a particular error is not actually an error, then you may probably don’t want to bother fixing it. Most of the registry cleaner these days comes with a selective scanning feature, which is good!

Scanning and fixing the registry is the primary function of the tool. Most of the registry cleaner tools will come with bells and whistles, to provide you with other useful utilities as well. Some of them are Registry backup/restore, system startup manager, internet privacy manger/history cleaner and so and so…

Since, you also find, freeware version of the registry cleaner tools on the internet, and though most people recommend it, just think what a company that is established to produce a commercial version that comes for a little cash can do? Yes the commercial versions are advanced, have periodic updates to the program, and also have a strong finance for the developing team to continue research and develop further. Thus it’s important to get a registry cleaner like we provide in this site! You can scan your registry for free using the tool just above this article!

If your computer has Windows Xp as its Operating system, then it’s important that you need to know how to take care of its windows registry. Windows registry is a database of records containing information about software, hardware, user information, system configuration and file paths. All the applications store their settings and other information in the windows registry, continuously and as often as they are programmed to.

When you have a running PC being used for many years till now, you had many programs installed and uninstalled in that course of time. When you uninstall a program, its information and configuration that were being stored to windows registry gets deleted. But not all the entries are deleted. In fact some entries though invalid are not removed! Frequent uninstallations and installations grows up these redundant entries in the windows registry that it gets bloated up. At one time, the registry has more of these invalid entries that it slows down the performance of the computer. Thus the health condition of the windows registry becomes worse as the time goes. You need to get rid of all these garbage information from them.

Thus fixing up windows registry becomes the call of the hour! Regular scans on the windows registry to scan and fix errors must be done periodically. You can open the windows registry database on your computer from going to Start menu > run > type “regedit” this will open the program that gets access to the windows registry. You can then manually edit and remove the invalid entries. This is manual fixing of the registry! You need to understand the windows registry keys and know what you are doing, else a wrong move can haphazard the entire windows registry making it unstable!

So there is a separate whole process that goes to learning how to manually fix the windows registry. If you don’t have the time nor interest in doing that you can choose the automated approach which is by using a windows registry cleaner. Windows registry cleaner is a registry fixer program that can automatically scan, find and fix windows registry problems on your registry with a push of a button, its fully automated! These programs are available on the internet, but first you must need to learn how to find a good one!

You may find many freewares and propriety registry cleaners/fixers/optimizers they come in many names. The question is, are FREE worth the time, well some of the freewares are comparable to the paid ones these days, so the vital question shifts to what these program can do?

Let’s talk about that now. Well a registry cleaner program can fix a registry in 2 methods – Smart & safe and Bulk & Deep!

Smart & Safe method categorizes each registry errors into Safe or not. They delete the entries that are safe to delete leaving the unknown and not so safe to us to decide. So here you have the majority of errors that are safe to be removed which can be removed with a click of a button!

Bulk & Deep method is a thorough scan of the windows registry. You need to know if deleting a particular entry is safe or not. Well this is recommended for experts.

You can clear upto 95% of the errors just by using a smart & safe elimination method!

Some of the other features a good registry cleaner can do are registry backup, which means you can backup the registry if you are not confident with your registry operation. Sometimes you might have accidently deleted an entry that might be important. You can restore the registry and get the registry to work again! Other features are registry defragmenter, startup program manager, registry scan schedule etc… The more the merrier. But these are the most vital features that you need to look for in any registry cleaner. If you need to avoid the grunt work of choosing the best one, checkout out recommended registry cleaner in the header banner above this article.
