What avgcsrvx.exe does?

Avgcsrvx.exe is a part of AVG Antivirus/Security Suite that is a Resident shield component. It constantly monitors your computer for infections. It starts up automatically at system start up. Removing this process from the Task manager will turn off this Real time scan feature of AVG, which is not recommended.

Why does avgcsrvx.exe takes more CPU?

It’s common for any anti virus’s scanner to take maximum system resources when its performing a full system scan. So when avgcsrvx.exe takes high CPU a full system scan is being performed, and you might see the animation of the scanning process at the system tray. So what’s if I don’t want the system scan to run at any time? Schedule it to run only when you don’t use your PC much say late at night like 2 am.

But I see multiple instance of this process running at high CPU even when full system scan is not being performed!

This is because of it being the Resident shield component, it scans web, email, link etc… What you could do is disable email, web and link scanning feature and only use the file scanning. This should solve the issue.

Other options – Moving to another antivirus and anti spyware.

If you are looking for an alternative solution for anti virus and anti spyware that is as equivalent as AVG but hogs less system resources, then I recommend taking a look at Quick Heal & Registry Optimizer Tool and Spybot Search and Destroy which I personally use.

If you see that your computer drops down in speed after you have downloaded something from the internet or opened an email attachment, then there is a good chance that your PC is infected with viruses and malwares. This is not abnormal for PC and internet users these days; so what is the solution? The solution is using an anti-virus, anti-spyware or anti-malware to detect and remove these virus and malwares that has a potential threat to infect and destroy your computer. Once you have the tools in hand, do complete system scan to catch and get rid of these malicious programs!

If you follow the steps in downloading and running these programs periodically, so you can be safe from these malwares. Let’s talk about that now.

There are 3 steps to do a complete system scan:

Disconnecting your PC from internet and LAN

The first step is to disconnect your PC from internet connection and any network. Make sure they are turned off.

If the virus or malware is currently downloading, you may see something strange on your PC, like your pc drops its speed or freezes up, disconnecting from the internet at once will ensure that the virus or malware is not being downloaded, so the way through which viruses and malwares gets into your system are blocked! Malwares and viruses just don’t gets downloaded from the internet, it can also spread through via shared folders over the network, disconnecting from the network, will just terminate them from reaching your PC temporarily. Also even if you are sending an email, save it as a draft for now and then terminate the internet connection at once!

After you have done that, install the latest version of anti-virus and anti-malware or anti-spyware. It must be latest so that they have the latest definition file which keeps track of the latest virus, malwares and spywares. Once you have installed the program, and real time protection is on, you may now connect to the internet and networks.

Now you may active the program, and get all the features working. You also can make use of the parental block and email spam blocker that comes along with a good anti-virus or anti-spyware or internet security program!

2. Run a complete PC scan!

Now that you got your latest anti-virus and anti-spyware program updated to the latest virus and malware definition files and active with all its features, you may start running a complete PC scan immediately. Before beginning to scan, make sure you check all the local hard drives as well as any external storage devices connected to your computer at the moment, like USB drive and External hard disk drives. Then start scanning. After the scanning as been completed, the program report s the results. Review the result.

If there are no viruses or spywares found, yet the system is still funky and weird, you may have to use another program called the Registry Cleaner to fix other errors that your anti-virus or anti-spyware program fails to catch, those errors are registry errors, program conflicts and errors and hardware failure. On running the registry cleaner, those above problems will be fixed. On the other hand, if your program shows the existence of virus and spywares, you can fix the problem by cleaning the infected files, if that fails you can quarantine or delete it. Now before you think to close the program, run another scan. Keeping scanning till the program shows no existence of viruses and spywares. What if when I delete or quarantined files which could make my programs not work? Well, you have to go the corresponding program setup files, and just do a repair of the program!

3. Scanning until there are no more errors!

Make sure to run your anti-virus, anti-spyware and registry cleaner program until there are no more errors on your PC. What’s next? Well, now you need to prevent any loss of important files in the future, so you need to backup your important files and programs into another safe location such as a USB drive or external hard disk, so that in case if those files get infected, and deleted by those security programs, your backup will come handy.

The other important thing is to schedule your antivirus, antispyware and registry cleaner to run periodically, and keep its definition file up to date, along with the updated security patch. This will help you stay protected from future threats.

Another, safety precaution you must follow is not to visit harmful sites and open suspicious emails from contacts you are not familiar with.

Thus, having a security program like anti-virus and anti-spyware is a good start. But you must also invest in a good registry cleaner if you haven’t done so already. Those tools together ensure complete protection of your PC. Download a free scan of a registry cleaner that I personally use, from just above this article!

Attacking malwares such as virus and spyware and to keep your PC safe and secured is not a stressful job. When you know how to do that, why need to worry about that? An antivirus tool is your ultimate weapon to eliminate viruses from your PC. While Norton and MacAfee may lead the antivirus marketplace, there are also other freeware tools that do the same job in one or more way! The one I personally use in my PC is a free tool called AOL Active Virus Shield (AVS).

Features and specifications:

First off the tool is compatible with all the OS in the windows OS family.

It unlike other commercial programs doesn’t ask you to remove your firewall or antispyware; it’s also compatible with other security applications.

But it has some conflict with other antivirus programs, which you must be aware of. Other than that you can download AOL’s Active Shield Tool and start running it from today.

With its deep-root scanning technology it not just removes all the malwares like virus and spywares it also prevents them from getting to your computer again. Thus this tool gives a double protection to your PC and eliminates any risk of virus to its minimum.

It scans all your files, emails and hard drive partitions thus using the tool is really simple. It also scans for the latest virus and also fixing the infected files. It not only protects from viruses, also other malwares such as Trojans, spywares and worms.

With its real time protection, your ongoing activity is monitored and the tool assures you a safe computing experience. This means even without your notice your incoming and outgoing emails are monitored for any infections.

Since antivirus softwares often slows down the system, and using it while working on other application is not advisable, I recommend you to use AVS to only scan the new files that are not scanned since the last scan schedule. AVS can do that! Also make sure to schedule your scan to not come in the way with when you are working on the system. Scan when the computer is free!

The most vital feature is that it does not eat up all your computer memory like other antivirus tool does.

It is more powerful than the other freeware antivirus applications like AVG FREE and Avast Home edition.

It uses a similar database update technology such as Kaspersky Personal antivirus, in which every one hour, the virus database is updated! Thus AVS is upfront always ready to combat viruses all the time!

Those are some of the features that you can use to make a decision to move to AVS if you haven’t yet done so already. With the risk of every virus blooming every minute, it’s vital that you have an antivirus that stays up to date with the virus database engine, so that at any moment when any malware tries to infiltrate your computer, make sure your antivirus is always there to eliminate and prevent it from occurring further. AVS is the tool that does that to the best! This popular tool with its user friendly interface is quite a breeze to use for all non-technical persons!
